Confirmation for Teens
“Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.” ~ Acts 3-4
Empowered by the Spirit:
Living Our Baptismal Call Through Confirmation
Before he died, Jesus promised that the Spirit would be given to the Apostles and to the entire Church. After his death, he was raised by the Father in the power of the Spirit. Confirmation deepens our baptismal life that calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world. We receive the message of faith in a deeper and more intensive manner with great emphasis given to the person of Jesus Christ, who asked the Father to give the Holy Spirit to the Church for building up the community in loving service. ~ US Catholic Catechism for Adults.
The Journey of Confirmation: Growing in Faith at St. Paul’s
In the Diocese of Boise, teenagers can receive the Sacrament of Confirmation as early as the 9th grade (and to receive Confirmation through youth ministry, as late as the 12th grade). The Confirmation program at St. Paul’s averages around 80 Confirmandi each year, which means there is great opportunity to meet like-minded young people in a safe and Catholic space. The program also has several requirements, to include (but not limited to) learning certain prayers, providing volunteer service hours, participating in the SPY (St. Paul’s Youth) ministry program, and going on retreat. This Sacrament is NOT “Catholic graduation” but a journey to grow in the Catholic faith so as to know, love, and serve God and His Church.
